Residential Treatment Centers for Troubled Teens

Residential treatment centers are services for parents of out-of-control troubled teens. Residential treatment centers are usually utilized by parents that have tried to use traditional therapeutic intervention, but due to the severity of their child's out-of-control behavior, the treatment has simply not worked.

Residential treatment centers are therapeutic programs designed to serve troubled teens that are currently suffering with severe anger issues, violence, anxiety, mood swings, low self esteem, mild to severe addiction to alcohol or drugs, or personality disorders. Residential treatment centers are intended to heal the minds and emotions of troubled teens. Residential treatment centers allow students to resume their academic studies while also providing other more therapeutic  elements such as, community services, behavioral modification services and group/family counseling.

The downside to residential treatment centers is that they tend to be very costly. Due to safety and insurance issues, students are in a locked down facility with highly trained professional staff. Most of the staff are trained mental health experts who often times, demand high salaries. So in other words, you get what you pay for. Students are put in very controlled environments, where safety is of the upmost importance. Students live in a controlled "vacuum." They do not participate in many secular or worldly activities. Sometimes, this can have a negative effect on troubled teens where they may feel a sense of institutionalism, which then may cause them to rebel or become resistant towards therapeutic help.

The positive aspect of a residential treatment center is the highly trained staff that come along with it. The students are under 24 hour supervision with intense therapeutic counseling. They also tend to be smaller than most therapeutic programs, providing more one-on-one interaction between students and staff.
