email: Melissa has seven years combined experience working with youth, and Master's level training in Rehabilitation with people with disabilities, including: substance abuse issues, behavioral, mental health issues and/or mixed diagnoses. She has experience in working with youth whose issues range from mild to profound. Some of the children she works with have mild learning disabilities and require special mentoring; and others have deep-seated mental health challenges, or mixed diagnoses. Many exhibit parental disobedience, gang affiliation, promiscuity, chronic behavior problems and trouble in school. Melissa is also experienced with children with eating disorders,
explosive rage, sexual issues, self-infliction, and students with
suicidal tendencies. As a Rehabilitation Counselor, and as an Educational
Consultant, assessing the need for and the best type of treatment
intervention for her clients is a routine part of her job. Early
on in her career she ran a youth facility for foster care teens,
which specialized, in independent living and life skills for helping
students transition into healthy, productive adult life. Therefore,
Independent Living training and Vocational Opportunities ranks as
a high priority for Melissa's standards in the schools she recommends.
